Tutor Training

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Gateway Centre for Learning. The Basic Tutor Training workshop is designed to prepare volunteers to work one-to-one with adults who would like to improve their reading, writing, math, computer and essential life skills to meet their goals. Student goals include employment, further training and education and independence. The workshop includes an orientation to the role of a volunteer tutor, the type of learner you can expect to work with, the Ontario Adult Literacy Curriculum Framework and resources to use for lesson planning.

Our tutors include men and women of all ages from many different backgrounds. Previous teaching experience is not required. These volunteers are committed to helping others and are truly changing lives!
