Gateway Centre for Learning – From Facebook Reviews

-“So proud of your dedication and hard work that you and your colleagues do for your community.”

-“Gateway Centre for Learning changes lives for the better, both learners’ and tutors’ lives!”

-“Great place of learning with awesome friendly and encouraging staff and dedicated volunteers. It took me a while to come in and check it out. I wish I had gone in a year sooner. From the first day I finally did walk in, my life changed for the better with the help of everyone at the centre. Give it a try. I can tell you, you will be welcome and appreciated, and your life will be changed for the better.”

-“I thought I knew quite a bit about computers and the internet, but I learned quite a bit more after taking Fran Roosen’s 12 hour Computer Essentials course in April. I then went on to learning more about WORD which I’d been using for years. Going through their Professor course has taught me how to really use the WORD program. Next, l’l be taking Excel which many new jobs require. Gateway offers this every few months. I believe one session just ended. So check it out.”

Child and Youth Program

-“I really like going to see my tutor, I hope I can go there as long as I need too”

-“My student’s skills have increased by two grade levels”

-“It’s a very rewarding experience”

-“Very positive and fun experience”

-Tutor:”I’ve been tutoring my student for a little over two years and am really happy with the progress he has made in reading. Now instead of guessing at words, he is trying to sound them out. I even think that he is beginning to enjoy reading.”

-Mother:”I noticed a huge improvement with her math test from school. I also noticed a dramatic improvement with her confidence. I watched her confidence grow from week to week. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart!”

-Mother:”My son has been in your program for almost two years now and I feel that he is benefiting from it immensely.  He has ADHD and is a few years behind in his reading and writing.  Since he can’t get one-on-one help in the school system, due to not enough teachers, this program is very crucial for his learning. His tutor is great and makes him work hard in his sessions with her. She is always prepared and sends home work with him. Since he is approaching high school this year I feel that we did the right thing getting him into your youth tutoring program. And by the way, kudos to your administrative staff at Gateway. They are always so friendly and helpful when I visit your office once a month.”

-Parent:”My son’s tutor was amazing and he really enjoyed working with her. We are moving along to other endeavours for him. Thank you so much!”

-“She is greatly enjoying her tutor. She is giving her confidence to become a better reader.”

-“I am very satisfied with his tutoring. His grades have improved. I feel he will improve next year if he continues the tutoring during the school year. We will continue to do our part over the summer until he returns in September.”

-Tutor:”I believe that tutoring a child in reading and writing through Gateway Centre for Learning has produced compounded benefits. The child has the opportunity to receive guidance and support for learning in an alternative setting, from someone themselves to do so. Further, the tutor can cultivate their drive and motivation, as well as skills such as planning and research, which can benefit them in future real world settings.”

-Tutor: “As a tutor for Gateway I have found it to be so rewarding. Helping a child or an adult read and seeing positive results whether it be small is a wonderful feeling. Not only is the student being challenged, I am as well. It helps me become more converse and building confidence between myself and the student. The people at Gateway are very supportive and if I need any questions answered or need some guidance, there is always someone available. I feel so privileged to have been selected to participate in a program this important. Thank you for including me.”

-Tutor: “Just a note to let you know how much I enjoy helping my student with his reading. I enjoy the challenge of organizing a variety of mini lessons. He has a short attention span and the changes in his activities helps him not feel overburdened. We use the resources at the centre and his school work when he remembers. The other volunteers and staff have offered great suggestions to assist both of us.”

-Parent: “I have been very please with the services of a Math Tutor for my daughter. She has struggled with Math throughout high school and over the past year those skills have improved immensely! She is currently enrolled in academic level math and has a midterm mark of 72 :).”

-Parent: “My son has been using the tutoring services from Gateway for over a year now. He has Asperger’s and struggles primarily with Math skills. Although, we have seen one change in his tutor’s, he has been able to accept this and work very well with the new tutor. He enjoys his time at the centre and looks forward to his weekly time with Cody. Thanks so much for having this service in our community.”

-Tutor:”The parents have all shown me great appreciation for the work with their children. Whenever I have seen the teachers, they seem very encouraged by the improvement of their students. Personally, I enjoy the unique response to my teaching by each of the kids. They definitely improve their math skills, but the most rewarding aspect of this exercise is to watch the dramatic resurgence of confidence within each child. Makes it fun for me!”

-Q: Did you like your tutor? “Yes – a big fat yes!! I wish she could still be my tutor.”
